When it’s all been said and done
There is just one thing that matters
Did I do my best to live for Truth?
Did I live my life for you?
There is just one thing that matters
Did I do my best to live for Truth?
Did I live my life for you?
When it’s all been said and done
All my treasures will mean nothing
Only what I’ve done for Love’s reward
Will stand the test of time
Lord, your mercy is so great!
You look beyond my weakness
You find purest gold in miry clay
Making sinners into saints
And I will always sing your praise
Here on earth and ever after
For you’ve shown me heaven’s my true home
When it’s all been said and done
You’re my Life when life is gone
When it’s all been said and done
There is just one thing that matters
Did I do my best to live for Truth?
Did I live my life for you?
Lord, I live my life for you.
I've been kickin' it in Southern Africa for over a month now. In such a short time I've lived in a hut, run on white beaches, wrapped my arms around litte beautiful girls who've been horribly abused, had diarrhea, cooked on an open fire + gazed at the stars, sets some cement blocks on a on a slightly unsettled (and very unsettling) foundation, learned portugese (Onde podemos ir dancar? For the unlearned amongst us, that means "where can we go dancing?" I decided only to learn necessary phrases.), eaten incredible (amounts of) food, cried because of beauty, cried because of pain, struggled with the death of a young handicapped boy that i love, wondered at how we've learned to live without needing to trust God for much of anything, realized that that life is ridiculous and boring next to living with True Faith, and questioned seemingly all of my motives about just about everything. (Hearts are shady + deceptive things.)
Here are some of the difficult words that I've been thinking about a lot lately. It's a big deal to read the bible and think about it, too. I'm trying to do it though. It's changing my life.
"You are my friends if you do what I command." John 15
"Yes! You've kept all my commandments. But you still lack one thing! Go- sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me." Luke 18
"If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that?! And if you greet only your brothers, what are you doing more thanothers? Do not even pagans do that?!" Matt. 5
"Learn to do right! Seek justice! Relieve the oppressed. Correct the oppressor. Defend the fatherless. Plead for the widow." Isaiah 1
"You cannot serve both God and Money. So do not worry about your life, your food, your body, your clothes. Is not Life much more than these things?? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?... Rather, spend the hours that you have whole-heartedly seeking His Kingdom + His Righteousness! He knows your needs. All those other things will be given to you as well." Matt 6
"'He judged and defended the cause of the poor and needy; then it was well. WAS NOT ALL THIS WHAT IT MEANS TO KNOW + RECOGNIZE ME?' Says the Lord…" Jer. 22
